Considered by many the greatest pure card-playing talent who ever lived, Ungar was a gin rummy prodigy who won the WSOP Main Event three times, including a legendary 1997 'Comeback Kid' victory 16 years after his prior title. His genius was tragically undercut by drug addiction, and he died penniless in 1998 at age 45.
